For over 26 years, we've been on an incredible journey, uniting a successful group of businesses that have become an integral part of our country’s business landscape.
1999
Exchanging a Tie for a Toolbelt
In 1999, Mike Marr made a life-changing decision. With only $500 in working capital and a modest car, he left behind a comfortable desk job to pursue a business he passionately believed in, and with his wife Terese, founded TPT Group.
The very first business MJM Electrical was out to grow and though the early years were challenging, with unwavering determination and the support of their first employee, Mike's father, Bob, they forged ahead.
26 years later, TPT Group still embodies Mike and Terese’s family values and vision, but it has grown to include hundreds of individuals on this remarkable journey.
Early 2000's
Advancing the Vision
In 2002, a pivotal moment occurred when TPT Group acquired Siemens' electronic security business. This marked a turning point, transforming a struggling company into what is now known as Advanced Security, one of New Zealand's largest security integrators.
As their family grew with the addition of two children, so did the business.
Early 2000's - Mid 2010's
Dreaming Bigger
With a hunger for growth, TPT Group continued its expansion through various acquisitions.
This led to new businesses operating under the group's umbrella, further diversifying its expertise and included the founding of Technology Leasing, Total Doors & Gates, and Promessa Property Group.
Despite the challenges posed by the 2008 recession, the group expanded its Advanced Security presence with new offices established and an ever-growing team.
2014 - 2024
An Industry Thought Leader
By 2024, TPT Group had firmly established itself in New Zealand, particularly in the security and technology industries. The organisation continued to evolve, creating new job opportunities and pioneering cutting-edge businesses.
This journey included founding tech incubator Advanced Innovation (previously ASG Technologies) in 2014, establishing The Runway Foundation as a registered charity in 2015, acquiring and expanding Advanced Digital (previously IT Engine) in 2018, establishing Innovation Franklin in 2021, acquiring Advanced Command (previously Everlert) in 2023, and founding Trade Rentals in 2024.

TPT Group’s continued commitment to fostering innovation and empowering communities remains unwavering.
The team have created ten successful values-driven businesses, acquired 17 others, and founded two charities. The team now comprises hundreds of staff across 24 offices and collaborates with government entities, private businesses, iwi, universities, schools, and the community to make a positive impact.
